Why Abu Simbel matters

The Great Temple of Ramses II and the Temple of Hathor at Abu Simbel were relocated stone by stone to escape the rising waters of Lake Nasser. They are among the most awe-inspiring monuments in Egypt.

The road trip option

A private car or organized convoy leaves Aswan around 4 AM and takes about 3.5 hours each way. It is affordable, but the very early start makes for a long day.

The flight option

EgyptAir operates short morning flights between Aswan and Abu Simbel, giving you more time at the temples and a more comfortable journey. It costs more but saves hours.

Which should you choose?

For most travelers, the road convoy offers the best value and is completely manageable. If you are short on time or sensitive to long drives, book the flight. Either way, the reward is unforgettable.
